Bath Festivals

Brand Identity for one of Great Britain’s largest city festivals.

Bath Festivals is a charity that brings some of the finest international musicians, speakers and writers to entertain audiences, in the beautiful venues and spaces of Bath, a world heritage city. They are responsible for The Bath Festival, the Bath Children’s Literature Festival and provide a year-round creative learning programme of events for children and young people living or visiting the city of Bath.

Celebrating the best of music and books in the beautiful city of Bath.

In 2016, Bath Festivals created a new multi-arts festival, ‘The Bath Festival’, merging The Bath International Music Festival with the Bath Literature Festival. To promote it, a powerful identity that immediately stood out in the cities streetscape needed to be created, along with a call to action that encouraged a large and varied audience to join in with this new entertainment experience and events.

To denote this new event, a simple typeface using the words ‘The Bath Festival ’in white and yellow on a bright teal background were designed to create a timeless, wide appealing logotype and identity.

The result, a new communication style that really stood out against the distinct, warm, honey coloured limestone of Bath. It engaged with existing and new audiences, increased sales, created a festival buzz, and encouraged greater engagement.

All the individual events that made up the festival were connected through the new identity, turning the city yellow and teal.

The brand and promotional campaign were delivered on time, on budget, online and on paper, from brochures, posters, leaflets, magazine ads, to city dressing, ad shells, bus sides, road signs, inflatables, pods, totems, web graphics and much more.

The Bath Festival engaged with +18,000 visitors on its opening party night and subsequent sale of 20,000 tickets for the two week programme of events in May 2017.

In 2018, I also designed and delivered The Bath Festival’s prestigious 70th Anniversary promotional material.

With the success of The Bath Festival brand work, the charity asked for The Children’s Festival and their Creative Learning programme to be redesigned, in-line with the The Bath Festival brand style, using colour and photography to separate each of their product areas.
